The Giant Mountains under the Emperor | SLOVART

What did our highest mountains look like in the days of the first skiers and tourists? Which mountain huts still stand intact and which we would look for in vain? How did women ski in skirts and hats? The first professional and amateur photographers left evidence of this. More than 140 pictures of the Krkonoše Mountains have been selected, edited and accompanied by texts by Pavel Scheufler, a photographer and owner of a family collection of old photographs. The foreword to the book was written by aesthetician and historian of natural sciences Karel Stibral. The publication is not only a valuable testimony to the transformation of our highest mountains, but also a guide to how to read photographs so that we can hear the compelling stories they tell.
