La Rochère

La Rochère, the famous French glass manufactory, has a long and fascinating history that begins in the 15th century in Burgundy-Franche-Comté. In 1475, Simon de Thysac founded a glass factory in the Vosges mountains for strategic and economic reasons. The region where it is located was then an important trading hub between the north and south, Italy and the Netherlands, and was ideal for obtaining raw materials such as wood, sand and water.

La Rochère is the oldest glass factory in Europe that is still in operation. For more than 500 years, Passavant-La Rochère has been crafting glass with authenticity and passion. This unique know-how is the legacy of several generations of glassmakers who have shaped glass and passed on their knowledge.

Every day, La Rochère strives to create new shapes, patterns and techniques to bring this magical and mysterious material to life. Their products aim to create a connection between people through the authenticity of glass that is timeless and ecological.

Since 2014, La Rochère has carried the "Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant" (EPV) label, a national brand that recognises French companies for their industrial and artisanal know-how. This designation is given to companies that excel in combining innovation with tradition, know-how with creation and work with passion.

At Passavant-la-Rochère, more than 90% of the production is 100% French, including more than 90% of the raw materials used. The sand, which makes up 60% of the composition, comes from Fontainebleau. La Rochère is also committed to environmental initiatives such as recycling glass, using the heat from the kilns for heating and reducing CO2 emissions.

Le Patio has been happy to offer La Rochère products on its e-shop for a long time. These glass pieces combine traditional French craftsmanship with a modern aesthetic, making them a great addition to any interior.
